Bicycle tools at the best price - Repair and Maintenance

Bicycle tools for workshop or personal use and keep our bike in perfect condition.

Bike tools

Bicycle tools are essential accessories for bicycle users, whether urban bikes, mountain bikes or road bikes, since these bicycle tools allow us to make repairs to our bicycles in the event of a breakdown or if we want to modify or tighten any screw of our bikes on the road. There are also more specific bicycle tools that we can have at home to do our own repairs to our bicycles. In addition, the bicycle tools that we carry on our bike routes allow us to make adjustments as important as adjusting a bicycle brake or adjusting the height of the bicycle saddle without problems. Most of the bicycle tools that we carry on the routes are multifunction bicycle tools, which allow us to carry different types of different keys in a single bicycle tool kit. Within the range of bicycle tools there are many types and styles, including the most complex bicycle tools used only by bicycle workshops, since they are very specific bicycle tools that not all users would know how to use.

Bike tool kit

Every bicycle user should always carry a bicycle tool kit with them on bicycle routes, to avoid getting stranded in the middle of the bicycle route. A bicycle tool kit is usually made up of allen keys of different sizes such as 2, 4, 6, 8mm and this bicycle tool kit also has torx keys, since some bicycle brands use torx-type screws on their bicycles. Another important element within the bicycle tool kit is the chain wrench, which allows us to fix the bicycle chain in the event of a breakdown and allows us to place a chain link and be able to follow our route and of course a safe element in the bicycle tool kit is the flat screwdriver that gets us out of many troubles on our mtb bikes.

Bike tool box

Many cyclists have a bicycle tool box at home to be able to make small repairs to their bicycles at home, although we always recommend that even if you have a bicycle tool box at home, you frequently take your bikes to a specialized bicycle workshop to give the final touch-up and not compromise the safety of your bikes. A bicycle tool box has larger bicycle tools that we do not carry on the road. For example, inside the bicycle tool box we can find a key for bottom bracket cups, a sprocket wrench, there is even a bicycle tool box with a very complete and sophisticated bicycle tool kit, for this reason we recommend you, even with the basics, to have a small bicycle tool box at home .

Start with a basic tool kit for your bike

Has it ever happened to you that if we start looking tool by tool, the budget gets out of hand. Buying loose tools, of course always of quality, is expensive, so we always recommend looking for a kit with the most basic tools or a type of briefcase, and over time improve it. In this way, apart from customizing it according to the uses and taking care that you usually give it to your bike, it will be infinitely cheaper.

Types of tools you may need for your bike

The tools that should not be missing in your briefcase are some such as the following:

Allen wrenches

This is surely the most used tool in the world of bicycle mechanics. These types of wrenches are very useful and general, since they are used for the vast majority of screws that make up our bicycle. It would be highly recommended to have a complete set of Allen keys, between the sizes 1.5 mm to 10 mm, and if one of its ends may contain the shape of a ball to be able to use them in places that are difficult to access.

Torx keys

Torx keys are very similar to Allen keys, they simply differ in the shape of their head since instead of being hexagonal they have a 6-pointed star. They are usually used on components that need a higher tightening index such as brake discs, chainrings, axles of double suspension bicycles, etc... Like the Allens, it is advisable to have a complete set of keys, from sizes T10 to T50.

Flat and star screwdrivers

These lifelong screwdrivers are another tool that we cannot miss. And if we already have them, with the magnetized tip it will be ideal, although we use them less and less, but they will be essential in this case to adjust both the rear derailleur and the derailleur, tighten the head of a spoke from the rim, etc. …

Fixed and adjustable wrenches

This type of wrench will help us perform multiple tasks, from tightening or installing pedals, to adjusting the hubs (only on some models) or disassembling some of the current shock absorbers. Preferably, if you can choose, it is interesting that they are of a thin profile, since it will make their use much easier when using them in narrow areas. The most common measurements that are usually used on bicycles are 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 mm.

To complete this set of tools, the classic wrench could not be missing, which in addition to being used to tighten the cassette core, will complement the rest of the measures that you cannot reach with the fixed ones.

Gripping and cutting pliers

These two types of pliers are essential in our home workshop. The cutting pliers will allow us, for example, to precisely cut cables, gearbox liners or brake hoses. However, we can use the generic one to tighten cables or perform a large number of other gripping tasks.

cassette puller and chain wrench

Instead, these are tools for a more specific use. If you plan to do cassette removal or core maintenance tasks, these will be the tools that will be essential in our briefcase.

bottom bracket wrench

Another tool for specific use that we will need for the bottom bracket, could not be other than the one with the same name. And as with the cassette extractor, there are several types of keys depending on the manufacturer in question, so you have to be clear about which one your bicycle uses.

This is one of the critical points of our bike, so pay attention to its maintenance.

chain wear indicator

It is not one of those tools that you must buy, but given its usefulness, it is always interesting to get hold of one of them. As its name suggests, this simple tool will tell us how worn our chain is and if its replacement is necessary. A chain in poor condition can cause premature wear of the sprockets and chainrings, so it is essential not to forget about its care or maintenance.

Chainsplitter

This is another tool that is essential if we want to carry out maintenance tasks ourselves. With it we can perform some of the functions related to repairing, removing or replacing said chain. In this case, there are universal models that are used for almost any chain, so we should not have a problem getting one of them. If not, we can always go to our trusted workshop so that they can do a maintenance and review of it right there.

spoke wrench

This wrench is used for centering or aligning the wheels. Here we are on sandy ground, because if you do not know the centering process very well, you can leave the wheel worse than it was. The main measures used in the market are: 0 (3.23 mm), 1 (3.30mm), 2 (3.45mm), 3 (3.96mm). As with other tools, some manufacturers use spokes and spoke heads with special profiles, so you will need the keys of each brand, although it will not be something essential that we should always have in our workshop, since, as before, we can always turn to our professionals for certain more complex tasks.

Hammer and nylon mallet

On other occasions we will need some "brute force" to remove a piece from its place, and that is why it is not a bad thing to use this type of tool that is usually quite common and that we can find in almost any toolbox. . In these cases, the ideal is to have the traditional hammer as a complement, preferably with the help of a nylon mallet, since it will not leave a mark or mark the pieces after use due to the protection it provides to the blow.

torque wrench

A torque wrench is not essential, but as on other occasions, it is highly recommended. With this wrench we can give the necessary tightening torque to the components of our bicycle without fear of going overboard. In carbon parts, for example, where the risk of exceeding this tightening torque and damaging the part is usually relatively easy, having a type of wrench like this can even be life insurance.

cleaning brushes

Apart from the adjustment, maintenance and care that is necessary for our bicycle, cleaning it is also something fundamental that will help extend the useful life of its components. Before greasing and lubricating our bicycle, it is essential to carry out a good cleaning. To do it with a little more depth, it will be of great help to get some brushes to remove dirt and reach places that you could not access otherwise.
