The Castelli Element Lite Jacket is designed inspired by the world of mountain skiing in which athletes are obsessed more than cyclists with weight and in which thermal insulation is a matter of survival and not comfort. And, since mountain skiing is a totally aerobic sport, breathability is of extreme importance.
The construction of this jacket is similar to an insulating layer for the mountain, with a layer of insulation between the inner and outer fabric. However, unlike most mountain jackets, the fabric is not completely windproof, but guarantees good air permeability. The small amount of air entering the jacket absorbs moisture and helps evaporate it more efficiently than any other membrane available on the market. Polypropylene insulation has been used for the middle layer because it is very light (specific gravity of 0.6 grams), but also because it does not absorb sweat or rain.
These fabrics of limited elasticity require a new cut and for this reason this garment has a looser fit compared to your racing jacket. If your goal in winter is to beat your PRs with Strava instead of winning the races in spring and summer, it's better to opt for the Alpha Light Jacket or the Perfetto. But if your goals represent the real, non-virtual finish line, this jacket will make your winter outings better.
Synthetic polypropylene insulation layer provides warmth while allowing complete breathability without any water absorption
Plissé elastic panels on the sides, elbows and wrists allow for a melee fit but with full freedom of movement
